How to Play Asterius and Theseus in Dungeons & Dragons (Hades Build for D&D 5e)

Today we have a build for Asterius and Theseus, the gatekeepers of Elysium in Hades in Dungeons & Dragons! If you want the power of the gods, or the power of a minotaur, these builds should give you what you want in D&D 5e.

  1. One thing I'd do with Asterius is switch his base Strength and Constitution. By putting 15 in Str and 14 in Con, his +2 Str and +1 Con means you start with Str 17 and Con 15. If you put 14 in Str and 15 in Con instead, you'll start with 16 in both. Your Strength modifier is the same, but your Constitution modifier is 1 higher, giving you one more hit point in your first three levels (it also satisfies my OCD about odd-numbered stats sooner). An ultimately minor change, but still.

  2. I'm trying to make macavity the mystery cat from Andrew Lloyd Webber musical + the "objectively bad" 2019 film and I've run into a snag. In his own song its said that: whenever a crime's discovered, macavity isn't there. To me that says he can attack but also remain hidden at the same time. Any tips on how to (class features/spells)? Thank you for your time.

  3. I absolutely love these duo videos because it makes so much sense to show how important teamwork is in dnd… no one is going to be able to do everything alone and showing how pairs like this fill each other's weaknesses is a good show of that

also yes. remember to pace yourself. burnout is a very serious problem and I really appreciate your videos so I don't want you growing to not like them anymore

  4. I'm here to complain because shield is my (now) second favorite weapon next to Punch. It was also the first weapon used to both beat the game and defeat an irate shop keeper.

I love it, but you definitely have to take pretty specific boons for it to be amazing.

  5. Wow, making this video must have been a mix of emotions.

Pro: Tulok had a legitimate reason to play a bunch of Hades for video content.
Con: Tulok had to spend the majority of that play time fighting Asterius and Theseus over and over again…

  6. Didn't really like this one, but as my opinion means jacks it, and this one helps the algorithms…

Anyway, love your work, I appreciate the heavy drops of videos this month. Musta been a bitch to make… good job

  7. I was thinking about thrown weapons and there is some stuff you can do. Javelins, spears, and a bunch of them are melee weapons wielded in one hand so dueling and thrown weapon fighting should both apply. You can open up with some thrown weapons for relatively solid damage and the settle into something more standard. On the other end darts are actually a ranged weapon, so sharpshooter applies to them. It's less damage than a bow, but you can wear a shield and even use strength if you want. A net is also a ranged weapon, but I don't know if you can add 10 damage to an attack that doesn't do damage.
I hope this is helpful, but mostly I made battle master hoplite with a spear as a one handed polearm and javelins as a slightly higher damage option and I just like to bring her up.

  8. Favorite boon–gotta be sea storm. It's a ridiculous amount of synergy, especially if you have razor shoals/high voltage up–you don't even need wave pounding to eat through a bosses healthbar in 30 seconds flat. Prock it with some other ridiculous combos like cold fusion or splitting bolt active and anything on the field is gonna die. Yes, even with the shield.

(Chaos shield special is great with Zeus boons, turning anything in front of you into a cone of death.)

  9. 7:05 – Preach it, brother. I walked out of a nasty, toxic job into a much better one, and while I'm much happier, no matter what, doing something one enjoys for work is still work. Just remember to treat yourself well, because having something to do and paying the bills is only part of the equation, and those are meaningless if you're also miserable.

  10. Personally whenever I build a spear and shield warrior I try to grab polearm master. The extra attack is pretty weak but still useful for supplementing the low damage die. Also you can still use a shield so you get that nice +2 to AC. Not in character for Theseus (and definitely not optimal) but still fun.

  11. You keep referring to Theseus as Asterius' bro. I haven't played Hades, is that canon in the game? Because I can say for sure it's not true in mythology. Theseus is the son of Aegeus and Aethra, while Asterius is the son of Pasiphae and a literal bull. Also, Theseus kills Asterius. I'm pretty sure that last fact is common knowledge but I just thought I'd point it out, since being killed would tend to make me not want to be friends with someone

Edit: Okay you're using 'bros' because they're shipped or something, not because they're supposed to be related. My point about being murdered still stands though
