The Mythological Story of Hades: Love, Kidnapping, and Chaos
Hades, also known as Pluto in astrology, is a powerful and malevolent planet. In mythology, Hades is associated with the underworld, the realm of the dead, and the wealth buried underground. His symbol is a two-ended scepter, with one end symbolizing life and the other death. He is also accompanied by a three-headed dog, who watches over newborns, predicts their future, and sees their eventual end.

Hades was once smitten with Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of earth and fertility. Despite her father’s objections, Hades kidnapped Persephone and brought her to the underworld. This caused great sadness for Demeter, who was so distraught that she stopped ruling the seasons and the earth fell into chaos.

Zeus intervened and scolded Demeter, telling her to do her duties and that he would bring Persephone back. Knowing that Hades was fond of the lyre, Zeus traded the lyre for Persephone’s release. According to the agreement, Persephone would spend half the year above ground with her mother during spring and summer, and the other half of the year with Hades in the underworld during fall and winter. This is why the soil is said to become unproductive during the winter months, due to Persephone’s retreat to the underworld.

In astrology, Hades is seen as a bringer of great change, destruction, death, betrayal, and immense power. When it passes through a subject, it is said to cause significant changes and transformations.
