  1. This run was crazy!! Selling a heroic grade boon, then using up all death defiance's, to replenishing all of them just to lose them again, selling almost all boons before last area and then getting stubborn roots to win it all. Man that is going to be the greatest playthrough ever.
And Ian is truly an amazing gamer reaching the top in such low amount of attempts. Casey keep looking out for things he misses you're the best duo!

  3. Congrats on making it to Persephone in, what, like 6 or something attempts? Especially with how cursed it was too. I agree with it being poetic that the main carry of the Hades fight was the first boon you got, the crystals, but I also like it was done with Zag's iconic sword

Meeting Persephone is so magical the first time you meet her, I love that Zagreus is purposely slowed down when walking through Greece so that the player can take in the accomplishment and beauty. And as mentioned by another comment, I love that this game has such a strong reason for you needing to complete multiple runs

I know this was all recorded 3 months ago and that the comments have been so bad in this series so far, but I really look forward to more videos and y'all seeing more the game

  4. Note that the music on the surface is the only music in the game featuring wind instruments, like flutes. All other music under ground is drums and strings and so on, because that are the only music shades can play since they don't have any breath.

  5. From the "worst" run to the first success! It's cool how things can just turn around like that. I don't think I ever got that healing duo boon when I played this game, but it seems overpowered.

  6. Man, it is honestly impressive how good you are Ian. The game is meant to take a while to clear. For most the first successful run is in the double digits and this was what, 5th or 6th? That is insanely quick for someone who is playing for the first time! You haven't even meet all the characters! It is to the point I worry it might mess up the natural progression of the subplots. They are paced to develop over time as you repeat things, but at that pacing you will reach the credits long before any subplot gets resolved.

At any rate, congrats on reaching Persephone!

  7. I just noticed a nice detail I didn't notice anytime before. The enemies in the Temple of Styx aren't summoned with magic circles, they either drop down from above or rise up from the ground since they aren't dead.

  8. Wooo, first clear! I'm impressed at how you handled that fight.
Grandma's laser beams came in clutch! And so did the Stubborn Roots Duo. This is a great one to get in the early game (although it gets less useful the better you play)

  9. Congratulations on the clear, that duo boon was clutch, but you played very well on the hades fight to get the best use from it, demeter beam chill combo was nice as well.

Looking forward to more of the series.

  10. So Correct me if Im wrong but the reason you die when you leave hell is

because nyx gets sad that she cant see you so she kills you so you come back Im not sure if this is true but it would make sense

  11. I love how Goose’s hair matches hers, just in a different color. And the lower half of her hair design, which almost looks like fancy twisty bread, almost matches her own mom’s fancy braided-bread/wheat hairdo, too.
(In case it’s weird to just say “bread hair,” Demeter’s bread hair goes with wheat being the symbol on her boons, since it’s a staple crop and she’s the goddess of harvest… when she’s happy. Her being upset about Persephone being away from her is what makes winter happen, according to the original mythology – idk if the game takes it the exact same way or not.)

  12. it's like Athena got tired of you missing the death defiance replenish she was offering so she tagged up with Demeter and gave you an ability that worked with none. 😅
but congrats on making it through the first time!!! i actually had a similar build, too, my first time through (Stubborn Roots and Demeter cast)

  13. As to why Hermes was 500 in that room, is he tends to have abilities that are better then many of the other gods. Like even if you get 10% attack up from him, thats more times your hitting someone, and applying whatever effect you have on your attack.

  14. Well, it feels like the part title is kind of a spoiler to how things go, which is incredibly exciting unless you're teasing us with it and didn't actually win. Time to find out!

Ian just assuming the boons are useless is very funny.

    STUBBORN ROOTS FTW!!!!!!!

It's going to be very amusing seeing Ian's moment of realization that Athena's death defiance boons restore one =)

Even taking into account the overpowerdness of laser crystals and regen, beating Hades second try is very much a God Gamer Ian moment. Great work!

The writing and voice acting in this sequence is still just SO good. Not to mention the beautiful visuals and perfect music.

  15. Ahh you didnt quiet see the sunrise properly because you stepped away and then back. I hope you got to see it soon after, that whole section on the surface is my favourite part of the game, just absolutely gorgeous. And I love that the sunrise turns the water from blue back to red, like the ocean is the Styx. And all the vibrant greenery and life after 40ish minutes of death and murder, and I find Persephone's voice so soothing. Just a perfect capstone to a run, you really get to sit and breathe for a few minutes before getting back to the grind of the main gameplay.

Im guessing youve noticed by now, probably, but you can also fish on the surface if there are fishing spots.

And hilarious that this run started as terrible, last video is named as everything goes terribly, and then you get your first clear! Your luck really changes, plus milking that stubborn defiance for every bit of health, plus it buffing while you dodged and hid in the Hades fight I think, plus the lasers is really what pulled you through. Im so glad youve seen the surface now, its so so beautiful.

  16. The way I choose my weapon now is that I choose whatever has the darkness boost, but I think when I was first getting through the runs, I would go through with just the weapons that I hadn't exited with yet (partially because I didn't wanna do the pact yet lol, but also because I wanted to make sure I was able to use all the weapons well enough to get out with)

  17. Amazing that the run that did it was the one that went to hell so early. Power of Patroclus, baybee. Also Stubborn Roots was so clutch.

And now one of the game's amazing examples of gameplay and story integration has been revealed, giving you an actual reason to do run after run! And the Pact of Punishment is there to make sure you've got the means to keep those runs fresh for a loooong time.

  18. Listen, the playthrough is great and Ian is the GOAT, but "Benjamin Franklin was a [___] [___]. A penny saved is a penny lost, [___]." -> "People mentioned: Benjamin Franklin" is waaay funnier to me than it should be.
