Game Description:

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.

BATTLE OUT OF HELL
As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.

UNLEASH THE FURY OF OLYMPUS
The Olympians have your back! Meet Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and many more, and choose from their dozens of powerful Boons that enhance your abilities. There are thousands of viable character builds to discover as you go.

BEFRIEND GODS, GHOSTS, AND MONSTERS
A fully-voiced cast of colorful, larger-than-life characters is waiting to meet you! Grow your relationships with them, and experience thousands of unique story events as you learn about what’s really at stake for this big, dysfunctional family.

BUILT FOR REPLAYABILITY
New surprises await each time you delve into the ever-shifting Underworld, whose guardian bosses will remember you. Use the powerful Mirror of Night to grow permanently stronger, and give yourself a leg up the next time you run away from home.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE
Permanent upgrades mean you don’t have to be a god yourself to experience the exciting combat and gripping story. Though, if you happen to be one, crank up the challenge and get ready for some white-knuckle action that will put your well-practiced skills to the test.

SIGNATURE SUPERGIANT STYLE
The rich, atmospheric presentation and unique melding of gameplay and narrative that’s been core to Supergiant’s games is here in full force: spectacular hand-painted environments and a blood-pumping original score bring the Underworld to life.

  1. Just wanted to point out that there's a ton of unique dialogue from the three Fury sisters (yes, even Tisiphone the murder girl, though with her it's mostly Zag talking. But she does have something interesting later on) that you'll miss out on if you keep Extreme Measures active. So if you want to see that you might want to switch EM off here and there and use other difficulty modifiers instead.

  2. Hey Keith, most of your struggle seems to come from fighting hades at the end (and in this run, theseus). Do you think Eurydice's gift might be better for those, or do you value the max health more?

  3. One minor strategy is, if you really want a high rarity of a specific boon for a build like you did with Artemis's cast, it's better to take the guaranteed god keepsake in Asphodel, not Tartarus. There is a pretty good chance that room 1 will be the boon in Tartarus, which doesn't have any room-specific rarity boosting, so it's likely to be common. In Asphodel, you often have the ability to intentionally delay getting the boon until it's in a skull room, guaranteeing better rarity.

Edit: The whole fish being spelled with Ch thing is a joke – they are Chthonic (underworld) versions of the surface fish

Edit 2: For future reference, the only cast boons that don't lodge in foes are: Dionysus, Ares, and Demeter. Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, Aphrodite, and Artemis all lodge, even though most of these casts have area of effect mechanics.

  4. I hope you'll get a good dislodge run some day, it's a very fun playstyle. Shame that the Artemis boon showed up so late and that you couldn't get that Hermes rapid fire boon at all, but that's just how luck is sometimes 😐

very fun final fight to watch though, congrats on the win

  5. The Demeter vortexes do have a que. Because they are an attack boon given to Theseus they spawn every time he attacks. When he trows his spear, a vortex spawns at the end of the throw as he recalls the spear (the ones that seem to appear under you are often centered on the opposite side of a pillar you used to block his throw). Another spawns centered on him every time he does his spin attack. Many of the other gods also give him attack boons in addition to the field effects, but Demeter's stands out as the most annoying because it just takes over so much of the screen.

    Edit:
Oh. If you're looking for opportunities to try out some of the different trinkets here's a few comments about two of them that may seem underwhelming at first: the broken spear point is great in the final zone if you get frustrated by poison because the brief invulnerability time is often enough to grab a cure. It also keeps Hades from comboing you with the large double swings or rapid laser hits. The shackles may seem like they're only good in the first world, and that is partially true. The buff is active as long as there isn't a "primary" boon on that ability. You could have an aspect, a hammer, multiple chaos boons, and all the "secondary" bonuses in the world augmenting your attack or cast and still get the bonus. Sure, by the time you get to Elysium or Styx it might be worth swapping it out, but it buys you time to be really picky about which attack you get or helps counter the "you must purge/sell a boon" punishment condition.

  6. Dude, fantastic handling of Hades with only one health bar, you really buckled down and trounced him there at the end. The build really wasn't half bad either, that Artemis exit wounds really was the capstone piece on the build.

  7. I don't get why keith gets fixated on hermes, I don't think his abilities are amazing. Also, the boon that he wanted, fire cast in rapid succession, DOES NOT have a rarity, what did he think when he chose a 500 Obol hermes? Frustrating.

  8. Today in Greek mythology for beginners, Persephone.
Persephone was the daughter of Demeter and Demeter annoyed Zeus by being high and mighty so Zeus married Persephone to Hades against Demeter's will, Persephone went to the underworld and was happy as far as we can tell, she was the dangerous one called Dread Kore because they wouldn't speak her name. Demeter threw a hissy fit and plunged all of Greece into eternal winter so that Zeus had to back down and go – look Persephone you have to go back to your mom or we'll all die, and Persephone ate six pomegranate seeds so that she would be forced to return to the underworld every six months, so for six months Demeter mourned and plunged greece into winter, and for six months she rejoiced and greece got spring and summer.
So Persephone isn't hidden from the gods, plural, she's hidden from Demeter, and Zagreus' curse is probably because of Demeter

Bonus: Patroclus was the lover of Achilles, and when Patroclus died in battle [impersonating Achilles] Achilles went kinda nuts and died pretty soon after

  9. Tip for Hades phase 2 : when he does his 3 lasers you can quickly dash behind and he won't be able to turn them in time and when he does full screen laser attack there's a sweet spot in between him and his spinning spear where you can get in and attack him whithout taking damage

  10. the small rooms in Temple of Styx dont increase the dodge/damage per room trinkets, only the combat rooms at the end of paths increase them.
Good job on that Hades battle, dont think i could`ve pulled that off

  11. A revenge build would be great with Ares

The Zeus/Ares duo boon is that they can potentially trigger without you taking damage, which I'm sure you can see the value of lol

  12. I only just found this out after way too many runs. The Demeter swirls in the Theseus fight show up wherever Theseus attacks. Sophie throws his spear where ever it landed will create a vortex. If he spins then it spawns on him

  13. IIRC Hades doesn't do contact damage so when he does his full circle beam attack you can just stand next to him and attack

In other words – to beat the final boss, don't be afraid to hug your dad!

  14. 8:26 The sword's main effect is knockback (applied on your Thrust, Dash-Strike and Special), so it goes well with Poseidon (and Zeus, since the Poseidon/Zeus duo make their effects "snowball").
43:03 You can make a pretty good Zeus/Ares revenge build, since their duo (Vengeful Mood) lets their revenge effects trigger automatically (even if you're not hit).
52:34 Btw, there's still value in keeping a keepsake for a god you've already taken boons from, since the increased rarity rate still applies.
1:43:25 Great job against Hades! You got the main boons to make it work, but here's the "full list" for that build:

    Aspect: Aspect of Poseidon
Mirror abilty: Infernal Soul (+1 Cast Ammo/rank; also a requirement for getting Hermes's Greater Recall legendary boon)
Artemis: Exit Wounds, True Shot (Cast), Clean Kill (higher crit damage), Deadly Flourish (Special), Fully Loaded (+2 Cast Ammo)
Artemis/Poseidon duo: Mirage Shot (your Cast fires a second projectile, though it has reduced damage)
Hermes: Flurry Cast (your Cast is +X% faster and fully automatic), Greater Recall (your Cast Ammo automatically returns to you) – tip: if you equip Hermes's keepsake, that counts as a requirement for getting his higher tier boons, including legendaries.
Demeter: Ravenous Will (while you have no Cast Ammo, take 10% less damage and deal more), Snow Burst (whenever you Cast, damage nearby foes and inflict Chill)
Hammer Upgrades: Super Nova, Dash Nova

1:46:34 Yeah, there's also a possible fishing spot at the back of Persephone's house (so make sure you check it before talking to her).
