► Hades 1.0 Full Release Story Synopsis

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.

As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.

  1. There are 8 gods that you can meet (plus Hermes who doesn't duo with others and always will show up). In my experience you can meet up to 6 of them in one run (might be 7, but certainly not all of them), and one of the gods you didn't meet in that run will be helping Theseus at the end of Elysium.

  2. Cursed Sword thingie: +2 HP for attacking, -60% HP max. Yes, permanently -60% HP, not just one and done and you can scrape it all back up. Your "real" HP is always being run through the -60% filter.

  3. Yeah Zeus was a fucking horndog.
The number of Greek myths that start with Zeus sleeping with a new woman (and at least once a man), and Hera getting pissed and trying to kill the lover instead of her husband is very concerning.

  4. Phalanx Shot's deflect is really useful against the witches you love so much. Just cast in their general direction and you get the perfect opportunity to ask "Why're you hitting yourself?"

  5. Cursed Slash lost me the Hades fight at some point, because I used an anvil and was totally unprepared to fight like that, having seen that mod for the first time.

  6. 1:40:12 "stealing my catchphrase?" hahaha 😛

You're making such good progress! Congrats on a nail-biter of a finish there! I love Cursed Slash, personally! 🙂

I too was amazed that Theseus/Asterius even had unique dialogue for when you fight them with Extreme Measures, and then without! And of course, Hermes also surprising you, knowing that you were forcing out Athena haha. The amount of situational dialogue they recorded for this game really impresses me!

I love this game's design so much. Early on, the Mirror of Night gives you enough permanent power that you can complete runs through experimentation and trying out boons you've never used before. You're still discovering synergies and combos. Then, once you turn up the Heat, you can use things like the gods' Keepsakes and Fated Persuasion to try and force out specific builds and synergies that you've discovered are very powerful or that you particularly enjoy.

I've played for around 70 hours now, but I've never actually done a cast build before, and had never seen the ricocheting Phalanx Shot before; I've really gotta try out more cast-based builds at some point

  7. 29:04 I mean… Zeus did sleep with a lot of people, but a few of them are blood siblings!
Of the twelve major deities we already know Hades, Poseidon and Zeus are brothers to Demeter, Hera and Hestia. Without thinking too much about it (they are gods after all) Zeus and Demeter had Persephone, and with Hera he gave birth to Hephaestus and Ares (and Hebe, minor goddess of youth and wife to Heracles). From Zeus and Maia (one of the Pleiades, Artemis's huntresses party) was born Heracles.
THEN, Zeus and Leto (a titan if I'm not mistaken) gave birth to Artemis and Apollo (twins!) and he's also Dionysus's father, though I can't remember the mother.
Athena just jumped out of Zeus's cracked skull, so I guess she is half-sister to Hermes.
Aphrodite rose from the ocean's sea foam, which is kinda neat.

  8. I'm super enjoying your increasing cynicism towards the gods. I feel like that's really the Greek mythology experience in a nutshell.

I have to say, you figured out how Fated Authority works much, much faster than I did. I had to reroll several resource rooms before I realized that it would only return results in the same reward category.

The best uses of Fated Authority, in my opinion, are:
-On miniboss rooms, you can roll to get a different Olympian if you don't like the one offered. (Miniboss rooms are the only places where you're guaranteed to get a boon, except in Styx where they can give anything.)
-If you encounter a reward that you don't currently need (like if you have plenty of coin, or health, or don't really need more poms), you can swap it out for something you are low on.
-If you have two exits both leading to resources, you are GUARANTEED to get nectar if you reroll one of them twice. (You may rarely get it after just one. If you have three exits leading to resources instead of two, one roll is all it takes.)

It's also pretty nice to use it when you're in Styx, because it helps you try and round out your build with whatever you're currently missing.

There are some rules to how rerolls work that you can use to your advantage:
-A reroll will always be in the same "category" of reward as the original. (You already figured this out.)
-If the room has more than one exit, no two exits will ever share the same reward. (This is half of what makes the Nectar trick possible.)
If you reroll multiple times, the next result will never be the same as the previous reward. Meaning, if the reward was Darkness and you rerolled to Gems, the next roll can't be Darkness again it will either be a Key or Nectar. But after that roll, you can get Darkness again. (This is the second half of what makes the Nectar trick work.)

  9. Only tried the health sword once so far and failed at Hades, his big sweeping attack is a killer with such low health.
Personally I mostly use fated authority on coin rooms, you don't really need these after a while, and gem rooms, you always need gems but these rooms really give so little it's useless.
There are a lot of unique dialogues that adapt to your actions or when you change stuff around, it's pretty insane tbh.

  10. Tip: the little kitten chariots CD an easily be made to self destruct by dashing across a ravine or to the other side of any moderately large obstacle. I don't think I've bothered to hit one with a weapon in literal months.

  11. Like in each run, you can only face 4 gods. Hermes and Chaos don't count!
And if you reroll, you can only change up to 2 gods, if you keep rerolling previous gods will show up. So that might be a downside, but the alternative – reroll boon would be different!

  12. Hoarding Slash (Bonus damage +5% of your current money) is fun to build around with Golden Touch from the mirror and other boons that increase coin acquisition rates, ESPECIALLY Chaos's – it needs some rng to get all the pieces together but I assume it can result in a suuuper op run paired with artemis crits and money spent limited to healing when necessary

  13. Fated authority seems likely to be useful toward the endgame, when you're not just looking for whatever and might need something more defined (or if you're at full hp or something and don't need the bonus, as you discovered). The Daedalus health effect seems to be sort of a lie, since it not only reduces your life total but also all healing by 60%. Frustrating (although it's exactly the kind of agreement gods and monsters are always making, with some kind of debilitating loophole, so I guess it is true to form?).

…the way the boons are worded, I really wonder about the Daedalus/Dionysus combo. You are always at 40% hp or less, according to Daedalus. Dio boon activates at 40% hp or less… it does seem possible.

  14. You say that it shouldn't be used as a proper tactic – but this "health regen" thing is perfect for building around "on getting hit" effects. You can totally use it as a proper tactic, as long as you know what you can get away with.

  15. Cursed Slash is one of the single best upgrades in the game. Despite the health loss, it's actually a net gain in endurance overall since you can just nip in and restore a good chunk of health with a quick combo.
