► Hades 1.0 Full Release Story Synopsis

Hades is a god-like rogue-like dungeon crawler that combines the best aspects of Supergiant’s critically acclaimed titles, including the fast-paced action of Bastion, the rich atmosphere and depth of Transistor, and the character-driven storytelling of Pyre.

As the immortal Prince of the Underworld, you’ll wield the powers and mythic weapons of Olympus to break free from the clutches of the god of the dead himself, while growing stronger and unraveling more of the story with each unique escape attempt.

  1. I'm glad you got to see the little Skelly's Tooth arc :)! And yeah, you've got the gist of a 'cast build': your cast hurts a lot, but is gated by its cooldown. Aspects like the poseidon sword circumvent this by immediately letting you re-use your cast.

You were very unlucky that you didn't get more Poseidon boons that enhanced your cast. Reminds me of how Poseidon never gave you Ocean's Bounty on that one run when you really wanted it. Maybe you're NOT as favourite a nephew as he claims. ;P

Imagine if in addition to Flood Shot and Rupture, you had Breaking Wave (wall slams cause a water blast) and Second Wave (your knock-away shove foes TWICE). Imagine going to town with that and your four bloodstones! Now THAT'S a cast build!

Blade Rift is another fantastic Cast to power up through boons, culminating in Ares' Legendary Vicious Cycle.

Cast builds work best with the following Aspects: Poseidon Blade, Beowulf Shield, and Hera Bow

And well done this run! Very clutch indeed!

  2. The dash-strike is good but not by alot (you can test on skelly), and when your enemy don't have armor he is staggered by your attacks, so rather than spam dodges is better to position yourself behind the enemys and keep attacking. Alas, if the enemy has armor the best would be to strike from afar or wait until he start a attaking, dodge behind, strike, run and repeat.

obs: I started playing this game because of your lets play, and I am still a little behind you. I am not a expert, just trying to help.

    OXOX and happy new year!

  3. 2-The "Cat -Chariots" can be killed by dodging behind obstacles.
3-If you press "special" and the "dash" you can combine both and make a special special (at least with the sword)…

  4. Another dungeon crawler with a great story is Tower of Time.
You should NOT play it since it is far less lively than Hades, but I do recommend watching a cutscene compilation.
It may be just a slideshow of 20-30 pics, but the story and the narrators voice more than makes up for it. Link:

  5. I might be wrong, but I feel like Poms can be pretty valuable, as they often are (specially at the beginning when there are few things to chose up) a rather hefty damage upgrade. That's why I think Persephone's keepsake works best as a "default" keepsake when not going Lambent Plume / Pierced Butterfly or making a particular god build, specially in Styx due to the sheer ammount of free Poms you can get there.

I know you struggled with Pierced Butterfly but I think that's a lot due to some of the things you took on the Pact of Punishment, specially things like Benefits Package and Forced Overtime that really make it a lot harder to avoid damage. You do lose heat by taking those out but on the other hand things like Hard Labor and Lasting Consequences start to make more sense when you are going for a Pierced Butterfly build.

Anyway, an amazing run and a great recovery. That Hydra fight was everything. It was also great to see just how much Hades melted when your build came together near the end and the dps skyrocketed.

  6. I just realized something. At 1:10:58 Nyx doesn't say "day or night". She says "evening". It makes sense that Nyx would be the only being in the underworld who knows the time of day, being the personification of night itself. Or maybe she refer to all time as evening/night?

  7. Wouldn't Dark Regeneration be more beneficial during these runs? While Chthonic Vitality constatnly heals you for 3hp after every chamber, Regeneration gives you a chance to bounce back with 60% of collected darkness. But it's just another thing left for the RNG. Also nice skills, it looked like it was end of the run and you managed to pull yourself out of the grave claps in stygian

  8. With a cast build like this, your mistake might actually have been not getting more poms. Each level seemed to add significantly to Exit Wounds. I feel like you go for Artemis or Hermes and Chaos (/Charon Well), then stack poms on whatever cast boons you get. I always thought Poseidon's cast was underrated, though, good one to base your run on. Pressure Points is underrated, also.

Skelly's thing makes sense with the coin in his mouth… which Charon would typically have taken when he passed over. I guess being made of only bone makes Charon's …dialect? more lucid somehow?

Runs like this do make me wonder about Patroclus's Kiss of Styx. While it's great to see you hit it sometimes and come through the run when you wouldn't have, otherwise… I think there's merit in letting a run come to its natural end. What's the point of the first two and a half areas if you can – more often than not – restore yourself to full lives and start again from the middle of Elysium? The occasional (single) Death Defiance available from the well is good; the restoration of three lives for nothing from Patroclus is perhaps a bit much. Not a commentary on your playthrough, obviously; I continue enjoy that as always.

  9. To understand the interaction between Artemis and Aphrodite you just need to know one thing.
Artemis is gay. Hella gay. Gayest gay a gay can gay.

Therefore – as much as she hates what Aphrodite stands for, she can't help being flustered around her.

  10. nice seeing you try cast build

with poseidon sword you should not worry about hammers as none help cast build. Just fully commit to your cast playstyle (almost never attack except a few dashstrike, don't even boon your attack unless nothing else is of interest, focus on spamming cast and dislodge). What you lacked was also as you said some poms into your cast, as cast scale very well their damage when you level them a bunch of times (until level 4 or so)

floodshot is ok but it's a bit of a hastle to then get the bloodstone back as you push the enemies forward, what you may try with poseidon is start with artemis keepsake since her cast is pretty nice with poseidon, and then you are guaranteed to have artemis in your pool to hunt for exit wounds (and then her legendary +2 bloodstone if possibel but hard to get)

also, when going to cast build you should really refrain activating the damage control pact, as it negates your first cast, it's a huge disadvantage in quickly taking normal enemies out. Damage control works best on quick-attack based builds

  11. Aphrodite is the goddess of love, Artemis was sworn to chastity
Also there's the legend of Hippolytus, where Aphrodite killed one of Artemis's followers because he also swore a vow of chastity.
So yeah, they don't like each other.
