I was just finishing a conversation via post with Keith from @68whiskey_airgunning on the topic of what pellets do when they enter a body when this squirrel presented himself at about 25 yards.
My 25 caliber Bantam Sniper HR was handy and loaded and I took the shot. The pellet struck the squirrel under the jawline and knocked him on his back dead without so much as a twitch.
When I went to make the recovery I found that the pellet was lodged under the skin along his rear flank.
I hoped to have video of the shot, but I am dealing with some intermittent GoPro freezing problems and this shot was just the latest victim in that sad tale.
There was mild expansion with this pellet. Exactly in line with controlled tests that I’ve done. I’ve come to believe that the success I’ve had with the JSB Hades pellet is not related to massive expansion and the creation of an enlarged wound channel, but in the transfer of energy that the pellet is able to do to the small body of the pest animals I shoot. This is the latest in a long line of examples of that property of the pellet.
I’d love to have an opportunity to meet with a scientist and do testing to see exactly how and why this works. My theory is that as the pellet strikes the target there is a momentary, very quick, transfer of energy as the front face of the pellet deforms, the lead stretches along the valleys in the head and somehow more energy is released/transferred than when a domed pellet of similar energy hits and pencils its way through.
A special shout out to @brocockairguns and Ken Hicks of @spaweapons regarding my Bantam Sniper. I’ve been shooting this rifle for over two years and it has been a flawless performer responsible for countless pest animal kills. I’ve shot it hot and cold, I’ve dropped it off a truck, it’s been rained on, snowed on, and it just keeps coming back for more. If you’re looking at a Brocock rifle, I’ll give Ken a call. If you get one, you want the @donnyfl Tanto. And @utah_airguns can do sick things to the stock…in a good way.

Awesome video thanks for sharing bsafe great info 👍
Great video ! It's nice to not see a political driven add today . Thank you for keeping it real .
I'm pretty sure I seen the video somewhere
Maybe it was airgun101.com
either..transfer of energy , check it out using a gel block,or the short distance you shot, the pellet needed a bit further to travel to make it expand a bit more.also..if it hit soft tissue or bone, different result
Grey haired, Wisconsin, shot dead, very topical, if only.
Pick up A tin of terminators from AOA and give them a try.. You might be surprised expansion and small groups out to 50
That's just about the same exact expansion I get from them in both 22 and 25 cal. Not a lot, but they seem to kill better than the expansion would indicate they should. I am shooting them in both cals at 950 and 960 respectively.
Looks like a H+N hunter extreme pellet
Not much if any more than a regular pellet
