  1. I'm disappointed that Supergiant Games refer to Cronos as "the Titan of time" when in the original Greek myth, Cronos has absolutely nothing to do with time, he just has a name that sounds like Chronos. It's such a common mistake for people to make that I'm not happy Supergiant chose to take that route, when in the first game the liberties they took with the myths felt a lot more deliberate and obvious.

  2. A theory I've got is that someone within the House of Hades betrayed Hades and secretly freed Chronos from Tartarus and that's how he's got Hades imprisoned and this time you'll have to go from the surface down all the way to Tartarus in the reverse direction you went in Hades

  3. I kinda wish they had added a multiplayer mode with zagreus as a secondary protagonist. I know supergiant mainly makes single player games, but they also challenge themselves with new things all the time and this could definitely have been a great opportunity to do so. Either way I'm sure the game will be tons of fun though!

  4. i just assumed cronos is chained – hades was just voice over – and melinoe is just working to break a time loop. but the "wait for me" does now feel like a "wait for me, I will free you"

  5. I sort of thought that Zagreus wouldn’t become a playable character, but he might be A) imprisoned with Hades or B) trying to keep the House of Hades safe while Chronos is destroying the rest of the Underworld.

  6. A very pedantic nitpick, but:

Hades and Zeus weren’t portrayed as the same person in Hellenism, that’s a modern misunderstanding. Hades was often referred to with Zeus’ name, such as Zeus Cthonos (Zeus Underground) as a way to describe the power and authority Hades holds in the underworld. It’s also a way to avoid using Hades name, as it was taboo to directly refer to the God of the Dead, thus he’s almost always referred to in a euphemistic way.

They were the same person in Orphism, but it’s important to remember that the Orphic traditions were uncommon and not broadly associated with most Hellenic traditions of the City-States. Orphism is more similar to a secret society, with private initiatory rituals.

  7. I’ve mostly been speculating on what underworld figures we’ll see this time around, we have nemesis and moros confirmed, who are both children of nyxin the mythology.

I’m also thinking given we’re involving the titans that Prometheus may show up. His punishment is one of the more infamous ones after all. Another famous underworld figure is tantalus, who could very easily fill a similar roll to sisyphus in giving you food items and this being cruel irony with his punishment.

As for gods, I imagine they’ll try to bring in the rest of the missing olympians. Apollo is confirmed, so that leaves hera, hephaestus, and hestia. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a few repeats from the first game as well.

I also think that with the FAQ on their site saying they’re going to focus on witchcraft in Greek mythology there’s a good chance they may put circe and/or Medea in the game, circe being the witch from the odyssey and Medea having married jason to disastrous results and has a whole play about it by her name. If Medea is there, then I could see Jason being included as this games theseus as well

  8. I always assumed the guy in chains was Cronos himself. We dont really get a sense of size so he could easily be a titan, and we know he was at one point chained up in the underworld.
Shrug im happy to speculate until we hear further from the devs.

  9. Ok with that first one their grounds are that Nemesis has her blade… first off she is not holding the Stygian Blade she is holding her sword honestly the only weapon from Zags armory that is not “his” is his Spear that is said to be his fathers all of his weapons besides that are Zags they just “take on aspects” of other weapons aka Nemesis is holding her blade and Zag can borrow its power when he turns his ever changing blade into it… that’s like saying a Pikachu and a Ditto are the same Pokémon because Ditto can mimic Pikachus look and moves… the Stygian Blade is just that a Blade that forever changes based on the wielded and their needs it’s not a brand new weapon each time otherwise when Zag heads up using The Spear in Achilles Form poor Achilles would spontaneously become weapon less on guard duty and I am sure that would have been addressed in game if that was the case but it’s not

  10. My theory for how Chronos escaped:

Zag during his rounds of exploring the underworld came across a trapped Chronos. Not knowing who he was, he would begin visiting him. Chronos would take advantage of Zagreus’ kindheartedness to trick him into setting him free.

  11. To be fair on the Zagreus front, I could see them adding and reworking him to fit the new game, lots of other roguelikes do this as well, where they'll have multiple characters to choose from before you start a run. I do agree, though, that I think its on the unlikely side, I imagine they are gonna wanna focus on Melinoe's story and having other playable characters would consume time and resources I think they'll rather use elsewhere. Would be cool to see maybe in post release content, but I also know Super Giant doesn't typically go that route….though this is also the first sequel they've ever done

  12. I honestly can't see 2 happening whatsoever. Darren stretched himself so thin doing all the music+Zag's voice lines. Even going as far as building a soundproof booth in his own apartment to record in during lockdowns. I can't imagine after Supergiant went on a hiring spree they would approach a founding member and ask him to give the other half of his soul on a sequel.

Debated on whether or not to include this next part in my post due to it getting "greeky" and inevitably edited it in. Hecate isn't just the Goddess of magic and witchcraft, but she is also a gatekeeper of sorts between the realm of the gods, realm of man and the underworld itself. And even has a part in the story of Persi+Hades/Zeus as she saw Persi abducted and conducted the hunt to find her. Being as she's located at the crossroads, the fact the fight sequence also appears to be located there, the fact that Hades is in chains and the fact that Chronos is locked up in Tartarus… I have a sneaking suspicion this game goes in reverse. Meaning you start up top and work your way down below.

As for more greeky stuff, the other characters depicted (Moros, Nemesis) are more of Nyx's children like the furies are. So thematically, they live there too but we weren't given them in the first game. So if Chronos is free and starting a war, it makes sense they'd go to the armory and snag up whatever weapons Zag left about. I woudn't read much into it and site time travel as a plot device. Feels like a cop out and I can't imagine Supergiant taking an easy story exit with a cliche.

  13. If you haven't already, I HIGHLY recommend watching Ludiscere's Mythology behind Hades video. It's over 3 hours long but so interesting all the way through and may give you some insight as to what may come in the sequel. Like you said, Supergiant made several tweaks to the original mythology for the first Hades game to exist without introducing taboo ideas. For example, Demeter is actually just another sibling of Hades, Zeus, etc. but they made her Zag's grandmother (and not related to Hades) to create a more dynamic family.

  14. There was a neat mechanic I can see Kronos using in hades 2, and actually it's a mechanic found in Undertale. The player can perform a 'reset' on their save file to start over, and possibly go down a different route. There are, however, a couple characters who can see through it. It would be neat to see gods like Nyx and Chaos able to break through a possible time loop Kronos could create.

  15. Personally, I thought the Chained character at the end was Cronos himself, and the reason Hades was speaking over the image, was because it was Hades speaking ABOUT Cronos….But now that you mention it, Hades makes more sense lmao

  16. I remember there's another myth of Mel's birth. She's also said yo have been born from Hades missing Persephone and made her beauty enough to rival aphrodite. Said goddess of love caught wind of it and grew jealous, sending down a fire to burn Melinoe. In doing so, half her body was marred for the rest of her life
