“Lament of Orpheus” from Hades, arranged and performed by BTvarious Music, featuring Jacob Giddens

I’ve been playing WAY too much Hades lately – it’s for sure my favorite game of 2020. I unlocked Orpheus really early into the game, but it took me a long time to actually get him to sing. I remember the first time I heard him sing this song, I had just died to [spoilers] right at the surface, and when I respawned in the House, this haunting melody was drifting through that halls. I think I stood still for several runs of the song because it was just THAT good, and I knew that I had to cover this in some form.
This cover is actually based on the Underworld Mix of this song – I really dug the rock groove and the added electric guitars at the climax. Everything save for the drumset sounds in this cover were done acoustically – I recently bought some percussion instruments, and even though you can’t see them in this video, I did use them to help bring a little more life to the percussion section. I also decided to add some brass to the background – as I am primarily a brass musician, I thought it would be a nice touch to add that color to help warm up the sound. I would also like to thank my good friend Jacob Giddens for playing the guitar parts for this video! He is one of my favorite musicians to work with and a very good friend, and this video would not be possible without him! Additionally, I sang for this cover! I’ve never been super happy with my vocal abilities, but it’s something that I’ve wanted to improve at for a very long time. It took a lot of different takes, but I am really pleased with how this turned out, despite some of the smaller issues. Speaking of smaller issues, I apologize for the poor video quality – my camera doesn’t really take great video in dim lighting, I’m hoping to upgrade to something better soon. Thanks for watching!
