  1. I’m reading the touch of darkness triology currently, I’m about to start the second book. I also have mixed feelings myself. I didn’t like the portraying of Persephone up until the very end. She’s weak, childish, jealous etc I imagine her as a strong, independent woman who can stand up to anyone most importantly her mother. I found the touching while sleeping disturbing as well tbh but I enjoyed Hades’ character a lot. The plot line Kinda gives me acotar vibes just not to the same standard. I also have it three stars, but I have high hopes for the second!

  2. I'm 60 pages into A Touch of Darkness, I'm going to return it. The writing is bad, the characters are annoying, and it seems to me like it's copying Lore Olympus. Thanks for the review, I might buy Neon God's instead 🙂

  4. I love Greek mythology and I DNFd "A Touch of Darkness" it was too boring. I didn't like any characters, they all seemed very one dimensional and one note, it seemed like a paint by numbers book. Difficult to read cringey. I will try "Neon Gods".

  5. A touch of darkness, I kinda got annoyed with persephone her pov towards hades is so negative until the last chapter like… hasn't everyone in hade's realm proved he's not the worst god lol

  6. I couldn’t even finish ATOD. It was just so cringey to try to get through. I’ve heard that the next books get better but idk. Neon Gods was better imo (still only read the first book).

  7. So I read neon gods loved it so much and didn’t realize the next book was a whole diff couple , anyways just started a game if retribution witch I think is the second series in the book I didn’t even realize it was diff authors I was just thirsty for hades and Persephone bc I got attached to the characters I feel like they both did a good job bc I don’t notice I’m reading about different people or different retelling I just wanted more of them!!

  8. Neon gods is AMAZING! ❤❤❤Wins hands down! If you’re going to read ATOD Hades POV is brilliant but Persephone’s is pretty whiney. It’s definitely worth reading ATOD though, the world building is fun but it’s repetitive . Neon Gods and ATOD are the best Hades and Persephone retellings I have read so far (tbh I doubt I will find a book to top Neon Gods, as Persephone has grit instead of the Persephone in ATOD). I’m currently re-reading ATOD, reading Persephone’s POV and then Hades POV for each book and you realise HOW GOOD Hades POV is in comparison.

    Next on my list is
    📚Hades by Carly Spade
📚 The eighth house by Eris adderley
📚 Lords of the underworld series by Gena Showalter

If you’re looking for something similar I highly recommend Christina Henry’s Alice series – she writes really dark fairytale retellings and you will get lost in them.

  9. No offence to St. Clair, but Neon Gods wins and it is not even close. I just couldn’t like the characters in AToD, and there were a few moments that just… made me feel so dissatisfied, and even annoyed. The whole gods having horns element was pretty cool, but other than that, Neon Gods takes the cake.

ALSO, Hermes is so much better in the Neon Gods series than in the AToD one!

  10. I can say this, in the sequal to a touch of darkness which is a touch of ruin, peresphone and hades their relationship does grow as they learn communication skills and trusting eachother while dealing with grief and ex lovers, it does a good job at representing anxeity attacks though, btw peresphone does not get pregnant so far from what i have been reading

  11. While starting on both of them, I already will love and enjoy touch of darkness more because its a series of HxP while neon gods is a one off and has the other gods doing things in the other books. I love that theyre actual gods in touch, horns a werid touch but i like the fables aspect of glamor to disguise it. However I really loved the intense situation that Persephone is in neon getting away from zeus and her mother. I loved that hades is cold but caring in neon. You know I just love them in there own way
